Fred Press Double Old Fashioned Glasses Atomic Celestial 22K Mid Century Modern
This set of five (5) Fred Parry, Mid Century Modern, Double Old Fashioned Glasses make a refined period statement. They are Gold and green on clear glass. On one side there is a dominant gold Starburst and on the other there is an eclipse. The decoration is in extra fine condition, though there may be de minimus scattered loss. They were designed and made by Fred Press, whose glass is a strong contemporary of Culver Glass. Given all the planets and space bodies here it is fair to call the design “Celestial” and because all things space travel and nuclear power were on the minds of the 1960s market into which these were introduced, it is also fair to call the design “Atomic”. They are strong representatives of Mid Century Modern MCM barware. Fred Press only placed “Fred Press” on the glasses it designated as “master glasses” within a set. On this score I have never been able to figure out the rhyme or reason. Some are signed, some are not. The design is consistent throughout the set. There is extra glass laid at the bottom of each to give them a nice, weighted feel, to accompany their full palm size. The mouth opening here is 3.75″ and the height is 4.375″. Fred Press gold decoration is 22K. They were made in the United States.
