Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a rare vintage atomic era table lamp. The base is constructed of iron, and there are two ceramic inserts, one rests at the very top and serves as a shallow dish – perhaps for some faux plants, and the other insert is also ceramic and encloses the light bulb. Both ceramic pieces are off-white in color, with thin black paint swirls throughout. The lamp stands approx. The ceramic dish / bowl at the top has a diameter of approx. 11, and it is approx. The ceramic encasement around the light bulb measures approx. 8″ tall x 6″ in diameter. The distance between the legs is approx. Condition: Excellent condition – no chips, cracks, breaks, repairs, bends, dents, dings, etc. The interior side of the dish at the top shows some minor signs of light discoloration from age and use – nothing objectionable whatsoever (see photos)… We’re solely mentioning it for accuracy. The electrical wiring is in good condition – no frays, splits, exposed wires, etc, and it looks to be original to the lamp. As with all vintage lighting, we always recommend having the wiring checked prior to long-term use. NOTE : The lamp will be packaged with extreme care. ANGELO LELLI FOR LAUREL LAMP! A TOUR DE FORCE OF ITALIAN MID CENTURY LIGHTING! DIMENSIONS: Lamp: 21″ Tall Width 16″. After the Italian Triennale of 1953, where modern Italian Lighting took center stage, Laurel Lamp. Company decided they were not going to be left behind. They had been the premier high end lighting. Company since the late thirties and now Lightolier was cutting into their sales! So, they penned contracts with Angelo Lelli of Arredoluce and the famous Gio Ponti, who was a mid. Century renaissance man and also the editor of the Italian home magazine, DOMUS. Angelo Lelli’s Three armed, primary color floor lamp had been the star of the Italian Triennale. And the name stuck – people started calling the 3-swing arm floor lamp a Triennale! Laurel Lamp had Lelli pen a number of 3-arm lamps for them, this one – a triumph of Italian style! Three graceful arms curve up and are crowned with primary color shades! Only a few hundred of these lamps were made for high end clients and their interior decorators. Mid Century lamp by Gerald Thurston for Lightolier. The “gooseneck” lamp was the staple of desks and dens throughout the mid century period. The ability to place light precisely where it was wanted held great appeal and was considered one of the great lighting breakthroughs of the industrial 20th century. Has some typical wear to shade and enameled surfaces. Walnut switch on the top of the shade turns on the lamp. This would look perfect in a NY Penthouse, Malibu Estate, or UK summer home!
