Unusual Vintage 50s Plaster Lamp Fiberglass Shade Atomic Era Mid Century Modern
Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale an amazing vintage plaster table lamp with its original accompanying two-tier fiberglass shade. The base has a rather organic, other worldly look to it. The lamp has two different lights – one comes from the main socket, and then there is a smaller, Christmas-style bulb that is embedded into the plaster base. The lamp has an on/off rotary knob switch that is embedded into the bottom of the base. It allows for three-way functionality. One twist will light up the small bulb on its own. A second twist will light up the main bulb on its own. And a third twist will allow both to be lit up together. We are uncertain as to the maker – no signatures or labels were detected. This is a fantastic lamp that’ll make a great addition to any mcm interior setting! With the fiberglass shade attached, the lamp stands approx. The plaster base alone measures approx. 19″ tall x 10″ wide (measured at the bottom of the base) x 5.25 deep (measured at the bottom of the base). The distance from the bottom of the base to the light socket is approx. The double tiered fiberglass shade measures approx. 12 tall, with the upper tier being approx. 15.5″ wide x 12″ deep, and the lower tier being approx. 20″ wide x 12″ deep. Condition: With the exception of one small, old stable chip on the plaster base, the lamp is in exceptionally good and clean condition. The chip can easily be filled in or just left alone. The fiberglass shade is in great shape as well – no burns, creases, breaks, repairs, punctures, etc. All of the lacing appear to be original, and it is intact. The electrical wiring appears to be original to the lamp, and it is free from having any issues – no frays, splits, exposed and/or brittle wires. The lamp is in fully-functioning, working order. The lamp has an organic feel to it – it sort of resembles a plant leaf, and it has a biomorphic vibe to it. Materials: Plaster, Metal (brass rods). The lamp is signed on the bottom back edge of the base close to where the electric cord emerges (see photos). The lamp has a standard rotary knob switch located by the light socket which is used to turn the lamp on/off. Vintage MID Century Modern Atomic Table Lamp By Balc 1950’s Plaster Mint Green
VINTAGE MID CENTURY MODERN ATOMIC TABLE LAMP BY BALC 1950’S PLASTER MINT GREEN. Contains some very minor flea bites / paint chips around bottom edge area. No major chips or cracks! Measures 6 in diameter across bottom. Also measures 30.5 to top of lamp post. Does not contain shade or finial. 1951 – Green Striped Twist. This has to be one of the rarest of the mid century, atomic age table lamps! BALC produced awesome and outrageous lamp designs in the late forties and early fifties. Very low production numbers make this one of the scarcest of the googie design houses of the period that sprung up in and around California and which carved a unique path during the modern movement to create California Modern. Here is a twisting and turning, pinstriped design that is pure eye candy! The curves, lines, textures, and use of space make this lamp the personification of the mid century modernism design ethos. It is a work of art, first – and a lamp second! Was unique in that they were a custom order house that advertised in magazines like House & Garden, Better Homes & Gardens and House Beautiful in the forties and fifties. Pair MID CENTURY MODERN Atomic Chalkware Plaster Pottery F. A. I. P. Lamps
A nice vintage pair of Mid Century Modern Lamps made by FAIP, stamped on back of each one. Three sides have bold black and white Egyptian type Hieroglyphic designs. These are in the style of Fredrick Weinberg. They are in overall very nice condition, but could use some cleaning. They do work, but with age, I would suggest updating the wiring. The harps and finials are included. The harps show age, but could be spray painted or replaced. The finials are original plastic. A piece of felt is covering the bottoms of the lamps. Pair of Mid Century Modern Atomic Chalk Ware Lamps. 1950’s tall architectural hour-glass form lamps with brass spikes. Textured chalkware lamps are incised with Egyptian Hieroglyphics. C1950’s in the style of Frederick Weinberg. Each weighs approximately 7.5 lbs. Signed: FAIP impressed stamp on the backs. Shades are not included. Both in good working order. Each with 3 way sockets and inline on/off switches, older wiring is different on each. As always, vintage wiring should be checked or upgraded to today’s standards. Condition : Good vintage condition, a missing brass spike to the back of one lamp, a small perforation on the side of one (photo #9). Patina to the brass bases, more so to one (see lamp on left in photos). Please examine all photos. Measurements : Overall Height 34. 25.5″ to the top of sockets and 6 1/2″ base diameter.
