This is a WONDERFUL – Eames Era, Bauhaus or Deco – ADJUSTABLE – TABLE LAMP with a STRIKING – WHITE CONE Light Source, a SCULPTED SHADE and SOLID BRASS LEGS with BALL FEET.. The LAMP is 20 Tall as Pictured. The SHADE is 11″ in Diameter & 2 1/2″ High. The WHITE CONE is 7″ Tall & 4 1/2″ in Diameter at the OPENING. Were never satisfied with the status quo. New materials, like plastics, permitted them to experiment. With new forms and shapes that would have been impossible before WWII. This lamp is a great example of this innovation and emphasis on form. A spectacular example of Italian modernism and style. Gio Ponti had penned the Perspex series of lamps for Arredoluce. And these lamps made a huge impression on other designers. The dual color scheme and delicate tripod legs were quickly embraced and imitated. This lamp is from this period and one can clearly see the unmistakeable influences and design elements. Today, all these plastic bodied Italian lamps are incredibly scarce. This is an extremely rare survivor. Lamp looks simply sensational. A two tone orange and white plastic sphere rests upon a metal frame and three legs. The delicate, almost petite, visual style is buoyant and bright. Casting accent light across a room. The top of the sphere can be removed to reveal two sockets. Which use 15 watt incandescent bulbs. Lamp uses a line cord to turn light on and off. Lamp works well and is in very good condition. Some minor wear to the plastic sphere and general age. Related wear to the metal frame and legs. Wonderful biomorphic design from the 1950’s! There is a mark on the base, but I can’t make it out. Lamp and switch works. It is about 25 tall and wide, with the shades on. The shades are held in place by clipping onto the bulbs and hanging. Lacing on the shades was disintegrating, so I replaced it with NOS lacing. The finish is original, but has flaked off as shown.
