Vintage 50s Brass UFO Saucer Planter Sconce Lamp Atomic Era Mid Century Modern
Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a rare killer vintage atomic era ufo saucer wall sconce and planter combo. Circa’50s /’60s. Materials: Metal, brass, wood. The shade is metal, and is painted black on the top, and white on the bottom. The light socket cup and planter are both brass, as well as the tubing connecting the two. The flush wall plate is wood. The shade, as well as the light socket up, each have perforations which allow light to shine out. Measurements: The entire fixture, measured from the bottom of the planter cup to the finial, measures approx. The light socket cup, and the planter cup, each measure approx. 4.75″ tall x 3.75″ in diameter. The shade has a 13.5 diameter. The rectangular wood wall support measures approx. 4″ wide x 8″ tall x 1 thick. Condition: Overall we’d say the fixture is in good condition given its age. It could benefit from a little tic as it does have some minor cosmetic issues that are worth mentioning. First being, the shade is slightly out of round. The metal appears to be fairly malleable, so it can most likely be finessed back into shape; we didn’t bother trying – it has been in left in the exact condition in which it was acquired. There are also a few small superficial scratch marks on the top side of the shade resulting in a tiny bit of color loss (see photos) – again, nothing major, but being mentioned for accuracy. The shade is a little loose, and could benefit from being tightened. The light socket cup has a shallow dent off to one side (see photo) – we didn’t attempt to see if it could be pushed out from the inside, but it probably can. There is a small amount of discoloration / tarnishing on the metal cups (see photos). The electrical wiring appears to be original to the fixture, and it is in good shape – no frays, splits, exposed wires, etc. As with all vintage lighting, we’d strongly recommend having a licensed professional inspect it prior to long-term use.
