Danish Modern Floor lamp. Globe lampshade is made of cocoon fabric with a wired structure. A brass stem and brass bulb socket. Presents into a teak block with three long teak legs set at a slight angle. The switch is placed on the electrical cord. The lamp is in very good / good condition and in full working order. There are some spots to the cocoon (please see pictures). The lamp takes one e27 bulb. The lamp has been rewired and earthed. This lamp can be used with 110-220v supplies. As with all vintage electrical equipment, it is advisable to have it checked by a qualified electrician. Retro atomic style plant stand / side table on tripod base 1960s Formica and tubular metal. Oriel Interiors are pleased to offer this. Seriously funky height-adjustable formica tripod table, which is colourful, practical, and oh-so-evocative of the swinging 60s. Today it is equally well suited to use as a lamp stand, side table or plant stand. Crafted during the height of the space race, the colourful plastic feet and central ball detail reflect the shapes of molecular structures and planets within a model solar system. The height can be adjusted, making this a very versatile piece. The table features a grey and white formica top with contrasting red banding running around the edge. The top is mounted onto a chrome pole which adjusts the height as it slides in and out of a chromed art deco style cone shaped finial with bright red acrylic ball detail. Three metal legs screw into the cone from below, meaning that the entire piece can be dismantled into sections for ease of transportation. The stand is sturdy and is in very good, clean vintage condition. The formica top is in excellent condition, and there just a few light marks to the metal legs, which do not detract from the overall look of the piece. The fifties and earlymid 1960s were an exciting and optimistic time, after the previous austerity of the war years. In 1951 the Festival of Britain took place, and offered the public a glimpse into the future of design, science and innovation, and into the possibilities afforded by new materials and manufacturing techniques. Visitors to the Dome of Discovery saw displays which revealed for the first time how the study of molecular structures could enhance our understanding of the universe. Designers took inspiration from these molecular structures and the nuclear age, as well as the Soviet Unions 1957 launch of the first satellite in space: Sputnik 1. This heralded the start of the space race which would heavily influence fashion and interior design over the course of the next decade. Cosmic shapes, space age symbols and atomic-style motifs were incorporated into designs for lighting, textiles and ceramics, whilst space age style was further popularised by the exciting, futuristic sets seen in films such as Barbarella and the Bond movies. Iconic furniture designs, such as Eero Saarinsens 1956 tulip table and chairs, and Arne Jacobsen’s 1958 swivelling egg chair were born out of this obsession with all things cosmic, whilst curvaceous shapes and glossy, modern materials such as tubular chrome, brightly coloured glass and high-gloss acrylic became a popular alternative to more traditional wooden furniture. Lighting design also shot off into orbit, thanks to glossy acrylic lamp shades which resembled space helmets – created by designers like Guzzini, Reggiani and Panton – and of course the ubiquitous rocket shaped lava lamps and spun fibreglass floor lamps of the time. Colourful wooden and plastic ball shaped feet and finials, suggestive of molecular structures, became popular additions to coat stands, hooks, magazine racks and waste bins. In fashion, futuristic materials and prints were popularised by designers like Mary Quant, and greatly influenced the Mod look. Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a nice atomic era vintage tripod table lamp with accompanying vintage shade manufactured by Lightolier.. Circa’50s /’60s. The legs are constructed of brass with wood accents (looks like walnut). The shade is a cardboard like material, and it has a wheat pattern running throughout it. Measurements: With the shade attached, the lamp stands approx. 24 tall (to the top of the finial). The distance to light socket from the bottom of the base measures approx. The shade alone measures approx. 8 tall, with a diameter of approx. 14″ across the top, and 15″ across the bottom. Condition: The lamp is in good condition given its age. The brass shows signs of light tarnishing – we have not attempted to clean or polish it in any way. The wood accents on the legs are in great shape – no chips, cracks, breaks, repairs, scratches, etc. It could perhaps benefit from a gentle polishing, but again – we chose to leave it in the condition in which it was acquired. The shade is in very good condition – no rips, holes, tears, breaks, etc. There is an area on the inside of the shade where there is some sort of spotting (see photo) – we didn’t attempt to clean it. It does not show through to the outside of the shade when the lamp is on or off. The electrical wiring and socket are original to the lamp. Fabulous and rare mid century tripod dice lamp. This is an original vintage item from the 1960s, possibly 1950s. The top and side faces of the dice have the numbers 2 to 5 in black painted dot and the underside where the 1 dot would go is the entry point for the flex. The lamp has been rewired with a yellow corded flex and the lamp has been PAT tested. There is a new chrome bulb holder. I believe the lamp is painted wood. The condition is used but good for an item of this vintage. There are some marks and discolouration which I have tried to show in the photographs, though nothing major which detracts from this lovely, rare item. The lamp stands 27cm tall to the top of the bulb holder (without a bulb) and the maximum distance between the ball feet is 20cm. The shade is a recent replacement and will be sent with the lamp. The lampshade is made of a red fabric with a white plastic interior. A long metal stem lacquered black with a brass bulb socket. Presents into a teak block and three teak legs set at a slight angle. The original switch is placed on the electrical cord. The lamp is in very good condition and in full working order. The lamp takes one E27 bulb. The lamp has been rewired and earthed. This lamp can be used with 110-220v supplies. As with all vintage electrical equipment, it is advisable to have it checked by a qualified electrician. Although we strive to give as accurate a description as possible, patina and age-related wear are to be expected. However, we will always indicate any noticeable defects.
